Greenfield Center, NY - John H. (Jack) Bennett, 96, formerly of Midland, MI, died January 12, 2025 in Saratoga Springs, NY. He was born June 15, 1928 in Chicago, IL to John and Evelyn (Clayton) Bennett. Jack attended Chicago public schools and the University of Chicago. He joined the Dow Chemical Company in Chicago after graduation.
Jack married Virginia Erickson on June 1, 1956 in Chicago. They moved to Midland in 1962 with their three-year-old daughter Karen. During his 60 years in Midland, Jack volunteered at the Midland Center for the Arts, Habitat for Humanity and at the Midland hospital. He and Virginia were active members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Jack was an avid gardener, and even when he and Virginia moved to an apartment at Independence Village their balcony was full of flowers throughout the summer. Jack loved to travel and he and Virginia visited all 50 states plus many countries. They also took frequent trips to their favorite places around Michigan.
Jack is survived by his daughter Karen Finkbeiner of Saratoga Springs, NY, grandson Neil (Kate) Finkbeiner, and great-granddaughters Sophia and Elizabeth.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3701 Jefferson Ave, Midland, MI 48640. Jack's family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place in Midland Cemetery.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Trinity Lutheran Church.
