John Bernardini Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Windsor Funeral Home on Apr. 12, 2025.
John Bernardini, 76, beloved husband of Donna (Simmonds) Bernardini of Windsor, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.
Born on October 14, 1948, in Burlington, Vermont, John was the son of Norma (Proulx) and Orero Bernardini. He graduated from the University of Vermont.
John was a lifelong learner and passionate professional who found fulfillment in not just one, but three rewarding careers. He often said he never worked a day in his life-a testament to how deeply he loved what he did. He began his career as a high school English teacher at Windsor High School, where he inspired countless students with his creativity, warmth, and humor.
He later served as the Youth and Family Services Director for the Town of Windsor, where he initiated and managed vital programs including municipal counseling services for children and families, the Montessori School, the Windsor Discovery Center (operated as an Enterprise Fund for the town), and Head Start programs supporting disadvantaged and special needs preschoolers.
John's third professional chapter was as a Certified Financial Planner and business owner, offering financial advice to families, businesses, and institutions across Connecticut and beyond for over two decades.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, John was deeply committed to his community. He was an active member of the Windsor Lions Club and served on the Board of Directors for Mary's Place, a center for grieving children and families. In recognition of his service and impact, he was honored as Connecticut's Man of the Year in 1980.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 10 years, Donna Bernardini; his daughters, Andrea Spencer (Ayers) of Oxford, Mississippi, Megan Bernardini of Old Saybrook, Connecticut, and Kara DeMarco (Andrew) of Waxhaw, North Carolina; his cherished nine grandchildren; his sister, Ann Tuxbury (Jim); and his brother, Frank Bernardini. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Steven Bernardini, and his grandson Jaden Salois.
John will be remembered for his quick wit, dad jokes, and infectious laughter. He had a deep love for UConn basketball and, the Boston Red Sox, and was always quick with a joke or a warm smile. His presence brought light and laughter to those lucky enough to know him.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at St. Francis Hospital for their compassionate care during John's final days.
His family will receive friends Friday May 9, 2025, from 10:00 am-11:00 am followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 am at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mary's Place, A Center for Grieving Children & Families, 6 Poquonock Avenue, Windsor, CT 06095.
