I had Mr. Blessent for leathercraft class in high school. I loved it so much I became his T.A. I still have things we made in those classes nearly 30 years ago! I too loved telling people that I took leather craft in high school over the years. Such a great teacher and also a neighbor to our family. He was there down at the creek when I grew up and then down there again as I raised my own kids in the same swimming hole that we shared with him.
You will be missed!

John was my teacher and then my friend. Bobbi and Michelle the world was a better place because of him. He had the best laugh and was such a kind and thoughtful man. I´m so glad I have a few pieces of jewelry that he made. His talent was so remarkable. I learned so much from him. He is missed

We kept some pretty cool cat condos looking pretty good. I can still picture you in nothing but your skevees on riding on the good ol John Deere Mower! And our talks down at the creek and on the front porch, is what I´ll remember most I think.....I know I´ll always still talk to you, I´ll know your listening!!

I worked in the maintenance department of the Mead School District as the carpenter. I had the opportunity to do several projects for John in his art and jewelry classes. John was always super nice and very appreciative of everything that was done for him. He was always one of the staff at MHS that I looked forward to seeing when I was in the building. RIP John, you will be missed. My deepest condolences to Bobbi and family.

John was both a friend and mentor to me. I attended Mead High School and graduated in 1977. I knew of John and his reputation of being a great teacher from classmates of mine who did know him as a teacher. After attending college and earning a teaching degree I spent parts of two years substituting at Mead High School and John would often request me to sub for him. That was really when I came to appreciate his teaching prowess and the strong relations he developed with his students. I also subbed for other teachers in the department and I loved eating lunch with John and his colleagues. John had both a quick wit and sage advice he shared with me and which I valued deeply. I am so appreciative of John being a part of my life. My heartfelt condolences to Bobbi and family. He was truly a great man.

Dear Bobbi and Michelle,
I was very sad to hear of John's death from a friend. He was one of those truly good men you just assume will always be around, and when he's not you feel the void in your heart immediately.
You are on my mind and in my heart as you grieve his loss. My hope is that fond memories ill sustain you and you adjust to life without him.
Sincerely,
Paddy Inman

Such wonderful memories of John during my time at Mead. Always brought a smile to my face. Best comment was when he came in to sub for one of our teachers with newspaper under his arm. Informed me they were his lesson plans. Just the best. RIP Take care Bobbi

John was a teacher of mine in the '70s. Over the decades I'm glad for all the times we crossed paths. John was a kind and thoughtful person, always quick to smile and show interest in my day. He was supportive to my wife, Nora in the art community and she appreciated that. We both thank you John, and we send our best to Bobbi and family.

John was my mentor, role model, and a constant sources of infinite wisdom. He dedicated his life to shaping not just the lives of students, but also fellow educators at Mead High School.
He had a fantastic sense of humor, and integrity. He inspired, encouraged and modeled kindness, loyalty and of course creativity.
The impact he had on my life is immeasurable and his loss is deeply felt. May you rest in peace my friend.

I witnessed all of those traits mentioned in the article first hand as a fellow art teacher at Mead H.S. ('79-'97). He was not only my mentor but became one of my best friends. We had lunch together just last month. Your laugh and friendship will always be with me. See you later, Dave Strand
