John Louis Boeger
September 11, 1939 - September 23, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Louis Boeger. He passed away on September 23rd, 2024, at the age of 85.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years and love of his life, Sharon, son Reed Boeger (Catherine), daughter Gretchen Smith (Mike), grandchildren: Austin and Mackenzie Smith and Emma and Ryann Boeger, siblings: Bob Boeger (Letty), Sandra Harper, Linda Brown, Gary Boeger, Debbie Boeger; sister-in-law: Donna Jacoby; nieces and nephews: Glen Harper, Julie Ruffino (Derek), Lisa Grant (Ray), Michael Brown (Gale), Stacy Farley (Lee), John Kaldor (Carlotta), and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Bernice Boeger, in-laws Marlin and Tex Reed, brother Tommy, and brother-in-laws Bobby Harper and Ronald and Arthur Reed. Waiting to high-five Johnny in Heaven will be his best-friend Tony Tucker.
Johnny was a Class of '57 graduate of Pasadena High School. He was a proud graduate of The
University of Houston, where he was a member of Theta Tau, a group that grew to be like family
over the last 50 years. Johnny was a chemical engineer, spending his entire career at the same refinery on the Houston Ship Channel, starting with Eastern States Petroleum Refinery, which changed its name seven times before becoming Valero from which he retired just before his 40th work anniversary (because he didn't want to say he worked for 40 years).
He loved watching the Astros, his Cougars, and almost all other sports on TV. During Gretchen and Reed's youth, he was on the Board of the South Belt Sharks swim team for many years, even after his children stopped swimming. He was always on the sideline coaching or cheering on his kids as they participated in the South Belt sports leagues. Despite his once-disdain for The University of Texas, he would go watch his son in the Longhorn Marching band as a season ticket holder for 4 years. Once his own kids were grown, he loved cheering on his great nephew and niece, Christopher and Mia, in their sporting events. He enjoyed working out at the Y and talking with the other old men about how to solve the world's problems. He was also a big fan of metal detecting and would spend hours searching all the local elementary school playgrounds and parks for treasures. He was a proud father who raised a family who loved him dearly.
The funeral will be held at South Park Funeral Home and Cemetery at 1310 N Main St, Pearland TX on Wednesday, October 2nd. There will be public visitation at 1pm, followed by a service at 2pm, with the burial immediately following.
