Lloyd John Bowerman, known simply as John, of Warsaw, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in the care of Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester, Indiana at the age of 80.

He was born on May 6, 1945, in Blue Island, Illinois to Lucille Martha (Wilkens) Bowerman and Lloyd Daniel Bowerman. John spent the majority of his life in Kosciusko County, Indiana where he graduated from Mentone High School in 1963, and earned his Bachelor's degree from Purdue University in 1967. John proudly served in the U.S. Army, entering in 1969 and was honorably discharged in 1971 with the rank of First Lieutenant. He served with the 25th Infantry during the Vietnam War receiving the bronze star.

John married Doris Arlene Anderson on November 24, 1979, and celebrated 42 years of marriage together before she passed away on December 30, 2021. In his younger years he worked at Farmers State Bank in Mentone, and for Serenade Foods (Maple Leaf Farms), retiring from Tyson Foods in Springdale, Arkansas.

John and Doris were both characters and he found a wonderful companion in his wife Doris, as they were both very adventurous. He enjoyed learning about other cultures and was known for his generosity. Throughout his life he served on various boards and enjoyed his many camping and fishing trips. He had a heart for serving his Lord in everything he did. John was raised in the Lutheran Church and was currently a member of Harrison Center Church in Etna Green. In his retirement he and Doris made the bold decision to fully commit as missionaries to China with the Lutheran Church and sold all his earthly possessions to serve.

He lived a long full life and will be remembered as a father, brother and friend who will be dearly missed. John leaves behind his son, Jeff Bowerman (West Lafayette, IN); two brothers, Robert (Susan) Bowerman (Milford, Indiana), William "Bill" (Jo Ann) Bowerman (Warsaw, Indiana); and his sister, Linda (Robert) Hile (Warsaw, Indiana). He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris, infant brother Lee Allen Bowerman and his stepdaughter Jennifer Mishler.

Friends and family are invited to a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Oakwood Cemetery, 421 N. Maple Avenue, Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Pastor Tim Richards. Military rites will be conducted by active-duty members of the Army Honor Guard, and members of the American Legion Post #49 and V.F.W. # 1126, both of Warsaw. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.

Memorial donations in John's memory may be directed to Harrison Center Church, 965 S. 800 W, Etna Green, IN 46524.

John was always known as Lloyd to my family. He was my son Jim Keirn's high school friend. After many years with no contact, they became very close again when John and Doris moved back to the Mentone area. They were like 2 peas in pod. Now they are together again, celebrating in heaven.
