John Michael Burroughes

John Michael Burroughes, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on October 8, 2025, in his Simpsonville, South Carolina home at the age of 73.
Michael was born on January 3, 1952, in Toronto, Canada, and grew up on his parents' marina in the town of Rosedale. After meeting his partner, Nicole Fortin, in Mexico, he uprooted himself and moved to Quebec where he spent most of his adult life. He dedicated his career to the Michelin Corporation, working in Canada, the United States, and China.
Known for his intellect, compassion, and warmth, Michael was deeply cherished by friends, colleagues, and family. A true bon vivant, he delighted in discovering new places, savoring fine food, and embracing the finer things in life. A product of the Rock & Roll era of the 1970s, he celebrated individualism and freedom of expression throughout his life.
Michael is survived by his wife, Nicole; his son, Louis-Philippe, and daughter-in-law, Katherine; his daughter, Sarah; grandchildren, Olivia and Henri; his brother, Bob, and sister-in-law, Ellie; and their dog, Charlotte.
For those wishing to honor his memory, memorial contributions may be made to National Public Radio, which produces many of his favorite news and entertainment programs.
A visitation will be held Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 2:30 p.m. until 4:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast followed by the memorial service at 4:30 p.m.
