John C. Burton departed this life on July 20, 2024, at his residence, in Springfield, Illinois.
John was born on September 25, 1950, to the late John C. Burton and Virginia (Gatewood) Burton, in Springfield, IL. John received his education in Springfield, IL.
John served his country as a Combat Engineer drafted in the US Army. With pride, he embraced the challenges that came with his role, demonstrating exceptional skills and bravery. His honorable discharge was a testament to his unwavering commitment to duty and his unwavering loyalty to his fellow soldiers.
John's professional journey began with his service to the United States Post Office. He was also employed as a custodian and handyman and was willing to help whenever he was needed. He was simply the "Jack of All Trades". In his leisure time he enjoyed reading and spending time with his family.
John leaves to cherish his fond memories, his children, Andre A. Burton and Jennifer M. Burton; his siblings; Delores Burton Smith, and Mary Kelly; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents; John C. Burton and Virginia Burton and siblings, Patricia Brown, Frank Burton, Carol Burton, Jerald Burton, and Donald Burton, and brother-in-law, Willie Smith Jr.
