Known as Jack, Grandpa Jack, or Dad to those who loved him, John Richard Butler, age 78, passed peacefully at his home in Warwick on Sunday, September 21, 2025 under the care of hospice. While he could never say goodbye without telling one more story, his final exit was swift.

Born in Providence, he was the dear son of John R. and Julia (Murphy) Butler; beloved husband of Donna (Leach) for 56 years; devoted father to Jennifer Butler Basile and her husband Michael of Charlestown; adored grandfather to Isabella, Julia, Angela, and Cecelia Basile.

He is also survived by sisters Barbara Butler Schmidt of Catonsville, Maryland and Janet Crook of Mystic, Connecticut; nephew Kevin Schmidt also of Maryland; niece Julie Margiotta of St. Louis, Missouri; niece Dana Crook of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has many other nieces and nephews and many friends.

John worked at Federal Products, Inc. for nearly twenty years as a field service engineer as well as a computer network supervisor for several companies before retiring. John's favorite pastime and hobby was HAM radio. He was an avid member of the Providence Radio Association for several years and enjoyed listening to and contacting people from all around the world. John also enjoyed bike riding and hiking with his family.

John never met a problem he couldn't research or help others to understand. His constant search for knowledge was an inspiration. We can only hope he has gone ahead to get all the answers for the rest of us. May he rest in eternal peace.

His visitation will be held Friday, September 26, 2025, from 9:30-10:30am in the Thomas and Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick, RI, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Kevin Church, Sandy Lane, Warwick, RI. He will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich, RI.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Hope Health Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 in the name of John R. Butler will be appreciated.
