OBITUARY

John Thomas Callahan passed into eternal life on October 5, 2025 after bearing, without ever a complaint, with a long illness. He was 78. He will be forever missed as a beloved member of our family.

John grew up in Arlington, where he attended Saint Agnes and Arlington Catholic schools and was routinely on the honor roll. After a brief stint in the U.S. Army, John worked at the Boston Naval Shipyard and then for the U.S. Postal Service, from which he retired. In retirement, John drove a cab which suited him perfectly.

He was a long-time member of American Legion Post 39 and at one point served as Commander. He also volunteered for The Salvation Army, where he met Nancy Jaime. She was the highlight of his life. They married in 2006.

They lived a simple, happy life centered on family. John loved music, cribbage, crossword puzzles, reading, and lottery tickets! In addition to his family, of significant importance was his faith.

Besides his devoted wife, lovely step-daughter Paula Oretga Conforme (Marcos), and wonderful step-grandchildren (Nadia, Alessandro, and Mathew), John leaves his sister Doris (Pete) Chojnowski, and brothers Thomas Callahan (Rosemary) and Paul Callahan, as well as sister-in-law Anne Callahan. In addition, sisters-in-law Lorena Jaime Sparda (Chris) and Glenda Jaime Pinto (Gustavo) and brothers-in-law Johnny Jaime (Alma) and Douglas Jaime (Lourdes). John has a special place in the hearts of his nieces and nephews, who considered him as the "rich" uncle because of his generosity. (That generosity was also noted by many of those who cared for John at the Watertown Health Center where he lived for the last several years.) John also will be remembered fondly by numerous cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Alice (O'Brien), his brother Daniel Jr., his niece Erin and nephew Doug.
