John Miller Camfield was born on April 4, 1932 in Ashland, Kentucky to Ellis Lawrence Camfield and Goldie Lee Camfield. He was the youngest of 4 brothers, Marion (Perk), Sidney (Sid) and Robert (Bob). John was married to Wilma Sue Camfield on March 6, 1974 and she was the love of his life. The two were inseperable and it is impossible to talk about one without the other. They were the ultimate team, building several businesses and embarked on many adventures.
John was an incredible person with a tough exterior, but the biggest heart filled with love and compassions. His one liner jokes and humorous analogies always got his message across with a memorable smile. He loved spending time with family and enjoying all the children.
He loved the Lord Jesus and was a devoted Southern Baptist Christian as he always said, he enjoyed it when the preacher woudl step on his toes with his sermon. John was a great Dad(even when he didn't have to be) who loved his children and his family very deeply, to John, family was everything.
John loved to go and have coffee in the mornings at the local coffee shop and shoot the bull with others, which got pretty thick at times, he never met a stranger as he felt only strangers were just people he hadn't met yet. He loved to help people as long as nobody knew he was doing it.
John served his country during 1952 to 1954 in the US Army driving armored personnel carriers and finally driving a 2 star general named Buck Rodgers.
John retired from Armco Steel as a brick mason laying brick in the steel furnaces for 34 years. John was an entrepreneur and businessman who enjoyed building things, he built several businesses: The Greens Bayou Cafe on Market Street in Northshore, Texas; The Maverick Saloon in Channelview (which at the times had the longest continuous bar noted in the Guiness Book of Records), J&S Marina, J&S Auto Repair, J&S Construction, J&S Auto Parts and Camfield Real Estate in Highlands, Texas and also J&S TexMex Restaurant in Kansas City, Kansas. John was al a 32 degree Mason and a Shriner and believed strongly in what the stood for.
John passed away on March 7, 2025 at the age of 92, he was preceded in death by the love of hius life, his wife, Wilma Sue Camfield and a son, Ellis Camfield.
John is survived by his sone, John Camfield Jr. and wife Jackie; a daughter Rebecca Janick and her husband Mark; stepson Chris Gorbett and his wife Elizabeth, and Trey Gorbett. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan, Travis, KImberly, Jennifer and Meagon and numerous great grandchildren.
