John "Johnny" Baxter Capps, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on September 23, 2022 at the age of 72. He was a native of Greenville, South Carolina, born on December 13, 1949 to his loving parents, the late Theresa Marie Niles Capps and Jesse Clyde Capps. Johnny is the beloved husband of 51 years to Jimmie Lynn Adams Capps; cherished father of Samantha Marie Capps Martin (Thomas Joseph Martin) and Alexandra Catherine Capps; and proud grandfather of John Thomas Martin and Jacob Ellis Martin. He is also survived by three brothers, Gary Lee Capps, Michael Wayne Capps, and Dr. William Larry Capps and a host of extended family members and friends. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Kenneth Niles Capps, Robert Capps, and Jesse Clyde Capps Jr.
Johnny graduated from Travelers Rest High School with the Class of 1968. He bravely served in the United States Navy, where he was stationed on the USS John F. Kennedy and served during the Vietnam Conflict. He had a career in the construction industry and was a member of the American Legion. He attained the 32nd Degree of Freemasonry and was a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple. He enjoyed golf in his free time. Johnny will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 15, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at 4 Aces Kitchen and Cocktails, located at 115 Pelham Rd Ste 1, Greenville, SC 29615. Memories and condolences may be expressed at www.AudubonFuneralHome.com
