It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John A. Carson, Jr., a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and great-grandfather. Born on September 30, 1934, John peacefully departed this world on June 18, 2024, at his residence in Greenville, SC.
Throughout his 68-year marriage to the love of his life, Jane, John exemplified unwavering commitment, loyalty, and love. As a member of Berea First Baptist Church, John enriched the lives of those around him through his unwavering faith and kindness. In 1959, John honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Medical Division.
John was a proud alumnus of Greenville High School and attended the Citadel and University of South Carolina, where he earned his bachelors degree in banking and finance. John combined his academic background and a strong entrepreneurial spirit, founding Carson's Nut-Bolt and Tool Co. Inc. in 1969. Thanks to his leadership, the business continues to thrive after 55 years, with three locations in Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson.
John was a man of many passions. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved watching John Wayne western movies. He and Jane also enjoyed traveling the world and spending time with friends at the Poinsett Club and the Green Valley Country Club, where they were longtime members. One of his favorite pastimes was telling stories to his grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife, his memory will be cherished by his son, James Fletcher Carson of Budapest, Hungary; daughter, Julie Carson Bayne of Travelers Rest; adored grandchildren, Sara Carson Moore, John Adams Carson, IV and his wife Tamora, Joshua James Carson, Grace Anne Elizabeth Bayne, Todd Eric Bayne, Jr.; much loved great-grandchildren, Elijah Michael Moore, Patsy Kay Carson, Jenna Lynn Carson, Huxley Gray Riddley; and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Wallis M. Carson; son, John Adams Carson, III; and granddaughter, Janie Grace Moore.
The family would like to extend special thanks to his longtime caregiver, Pearl Kinard and hospice nurse, Kim Ou for the excellent care they provided to John.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 24, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in Mountain View Memorial Park, Travelers Rest. Pallbearers will be James Fletcher Carson, John Adams Carson, IV, Joshua James Carson, Todd Eric Bayne, Jr., Braden Christopher Riddley, and Elijah Michael Moore.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John's honor to Miracle Hill Ministries c/o Miracle Hill Children's Home, P.O. Box 2546, Greenville, SC 29602.
