John Joseph Carter, age 87 of Oxford passed away on his own terms, the way he wanted to…..peacefully at home surrounded by his family following many years of dialysis on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. John was born on March 12, 1938 in Appleton to John and Edna (Zephrin) Carter. He attended South Division High School in Milwaukee and married Sandra “Sandy” Golla on September 12, 1959 at St. John Kanty Catholic Church in Milwaukee. Together John and Sandy enjoyed their cottage on Buffalo Lake since the early 1970’s and in 1997 they permanently moved to the Oxford area after retiring. Sandy preceded John in death on February 16, 2014.
John worked as a millwright for many years at P & H Mining in Milwaukee. He enjoyed working with his hands and was always building something. He looked forward to taking care of his animals and his farmette. John was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church in Packwaukee. He will be remembered for his quiet demeanor, kindness and generosity.
John is survived by three sons: Jeffrey (Katie) of New Berlin, James of West Allis, and Jesse of Oxford. He is also survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister, Jeanne (Duane) Golla.
A funeral service for John Carter will be on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Packwaukee. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Pastor Brenda Pulver will officiate and cremation will follow the traditional service. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church of Packwaukee, P.O. Box 15, Packwaukee, WI 53953.
