John D. Chaffin, age 61, of Kettering, Ohio, passed peacefully on February 19, 2025 at Hospice of Dayton. John grew up in Springfield, Ohio, the youngest of seven children. He began his musical career at the age of 18 and was instantly hooked when he began playing for people. John worked for the International College of Broadcasting for most of his career as Director of admissions, and he taught there as well. His music was his first love and he continued to play for his entire life. John played in and led several bands, he played several instruments, and even traveled as a record producer for several years. He was awarded the Telly Award for music publishing and an Aegis Award for a video in visual communications. The only thing John loved for than music was his wife and best friend Becky.
John is survived by his wife Becky, and their two cats Ginger and Pepper; her children Josh (Carrie), Liz (Dan), and seven grandchildren, DJ, Alexis, Tommy, Ryan, Jackson, Tyler, and Lainey. Also survived by his sisters, Sharon, Carol, and Cindy (KC); brothers Steve (Cathy), and Joe (Andrea); numerous nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by his parents Constance and Robert, brother Bob and his wife Sandy, brother in law Rick Ohns, and niece Kristi Bayless.

A memorial service will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Kettering, on February 28, 2025 at 12 PM. Calling hours will be held prior to service from 10 AM to 12 PM.
