John Cooper Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Earle Funeral Home - Blackwood on Dec. 20, 2025.
John H. Cooper, Jr., a cherished family man and devoted friend, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on September 18, 1951, John lived a life marked by love, dedication, and a generous spirit that touched everyone he knew.

John's beloved wife, Margaret, remained his unwavering companion and partner throughout their 45-year marriage. Together, they raised a loving family with their children Michael (Traci), John, and Katelyn (Tim). The joy of his life was multiplied with the arrival of his adored grandsons: Michael, Carter, Matthew, Kyler, Kian, and Otto, who will forever remember his enthusiasm at every sports game.

Those who knew John were inspired by his dedication to family, which extended to his role as a supportive brother-in-law to David (Pat), Joanne, Susan (Nick), the late Howard (Joan), Gerald, Judy, Timmy, and Michael. John was also predeceased by his brother Joseph and his parents, John and Myrtle. As a fun and favorite uncle, his presence will be deeply missed by Angel, David, Amy, Danielle, Peter, Kimberly, Stephanie, Brianna and the late Kevin.

Throughout his life, John was inseparable from his best friend since second grade, Larry Reeves. Their tradition of sharing breakfast, watching every Eagles game and sharing many memories and stories was a testament to their friendship that spanned decades. After more than 45 years with NJ Transit, John retired in 2018 as a bus driver. He also served as Vice President of the ATU Local 880, where he was an active and dedicated member, reflecting his strong commitment to his work and colleagues.

As a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan, John's passion for his team was legendary. His family and friends have many great memories of summers in Avalon, watching the Eagles together, going camping and numerous family gatherings. John had a heart of gold and will forever live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

I worked with John at NJT since 1980, and there was no better person I've met on or off the job! No shock there. He,along with his best transit bud Jim Hopkins were my shop reps. Big hugs to the family.
