Crawford - John Thomas "Tommy" Crawford, age 84, of Macclenny, Florida. At day lite on the morning of 7/21/2024, two doves landed on the roof of the building next to room #217 of Frank Wells Nursing Home, and a photo was taken of these two birds as they went about their morning routines. Tommy was born to Alton B. & Elizabeth Crawford of MacClenny on November 12th,1939, and had an older brother Tony [deceased]. A graduate of the class of 57 that enjoyed playing high school football. Married his school sweetheart, Gayle Combs Crawford {deceased} and were Blessed with 4-children. Heavy equipment was his occupation; cranes, excavators, and draglines were his specialty. One Christmas he announced to his kids that their presents were out in the truck, upon review of the vehicle a cable spool full of 7/16 cable used to control a clam-bucket for a crane and 1-ton Crosby pulley block used for lite crane lifting was utilized for a "trolley" or as it is called today a zip-line. By the time that zip line was taken out of service, that pulley was worn out! By the early to mid-70s all the family had a dirt bike and many a weekend the Crawford clan and friends were out in the Osceola or the vast timber company lands of Baker County experiencing nature; at its best. Tommy lived his life to its fullest, quick-witted and full of humor and a Love for God and family. Tommy and Gayle had spent the last few years, with Tommy being a few months shy of 4-years at FWNH. Dad occupied his time by putting together picture puzzles and could be counted on to bring a smile or laugh to the staff. This staff at FWNH was outstanding throughout Mama and Daddy's stay and as time was drawing nearer for him, moved his bed by the window and thus saw daylight as a new day broke the horizon. Heartfelt thanks to this staff and to Mrs. Shirley Johnson; Thank You for all the support you gave to Daddy and this family when Hospice came to the upcoming event. You were a God send Mrs. Shirley!
Tommy is survived by his children, Darrell (Nita), Lawana, David (Donna), and Derek (Andrea) Crawford; grandchildren, Julia Rhoden (Chandler), Jennifer Victoria (Carlos), Bryan (Sylvia) Amber McCullough (Trey), Shawn (Leah) Crawford, and Shane Crawford; great grandchildren, Brayden W. Bullard (deceased), Makenzie & Dallas Rhoden, Justin L.
