John Lawrence Detjen
September 11, 1940 ~ January 22, 2023
John was born in Powers, Michigan on September 11, 1940. Son of Herman and Mildred Detjen. John was a private in the U.S. Navy and worked on an aircraft carrier. After the military, John became a resident of Miami, Florida where he met and married his wife of 53 years, Clara (Chrissy). They then moved to Polk County, Florida to enjoy the family life. Prior to his retirement, he worked in construction. John was a kind man who did not know a stranger, he was a gentle and happy soul who enjoyed spending time with his family. John enjoyed reading Louis L'Amour American novels, listening to "The Shopper," and going to yard sales, looking for great deals. He enjoyed attending church with his kind son in law, Christopher Howard and eating his son's, Andrew Detjen's BBQ. He is survived by his wife, Clara (Chrissy) Detjen, Sons: Andrew, Jay, and Billy Detjen. Daughters: Patty Lanier, and Kimberly Howard. Brother: Gary Detjen and sisters: Ellen Jaeger and Lois Conine. Grandchildren: Michael, Tanner, Cambree, Amber, Timothy, Johnathan, Skylar, Lindsay, and Trenton. Great grandchildren: Adrianne, Averi, Nolan, Brooks, and Emerson. Preceded in death by his sisters: Gloria Babel and Naomi Grimes and grandson John Brandon Danforth. He will be forever missed by his loved ones, friends and family. A celebration of life will be held on February 25, 2023 at 1pm at the Auburndale Community Church, 601 Stadium Road. Auburndale, FL 33823.

John was a wonderful neighbor and friend of almost 20 years, he was always happy, and most of all, down to earth. My prayers go out to the whole family, they are truly wonderful people, always kind and very gracious. Much love to you all in your time of sorrow. Much love, Michelle.
