John D. Dunkirk

John Dunkirk of North Sea, New York, passed away on June 4, 2025, surrounded by his family, in Southampton. He was 79. John was born in Alexandria, Louisiana to Alexander and Katherine Dunkirk on August 9th, 1945. He went to Southampton High School. After high school, he was drafted into the United States Marines. After the military John worked as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator up until his retirement in 2020. He was a proud member of the North Sea Fire Department for 35 years. While always being a hard-worker, John cherished the times he spent with his family and his friends and restoring old trucks. John is survived by his wife, Michelle; his children, Brian and Mark Dunkirk; and his five grandchildren, Elle, Hailey, Chase, Mathew, and Alden. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and four brothers, Malcolm, Douglas, Kenneth, and Alan Dunkirk. There will be a celebration of his life on his birthday, August 9th, at the North Sea Fire House from 1-5pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to North Sea Fire Department scholarship fund.
