John Gilbert Ferrand, 82 of Martinsville, gained eternal rest at 8:02 am on Monday, February 10th, 2025, at the IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on Sunday, August 30th, 1942, in Martinsville, Indiana, to the late Claude Edward and Dorothy (Hunt) Ferrand.
A lifelong Martinsville resident, John graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1960. Three years after graduation, he married the love of his life, Shirley Kay (Littell) Ferrand on June 14th, 1963. They spent 57 years together creating beautiful memories and raising their two children before Shirley's passing on October 20th, 2020.
John was a dedicated employee of General Motors Truck and Bus where he was a press metal fabricator, retiring in 1999 after 35 years of employment. Retirement granted John the opportunity to do many of the things he enjoyed most, such as spending time with his family, tackling crossword puzzles, finding treasures at flea markets, traveling, fishing, reading westerns, and enjoying car rides on country roads.
He was a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #230 in Martinsville, as well as Sons of American Legion 7th District, a past member of the Paragon Lions Club and the Fenton Art Glass Club.
John's life and legacy will be fondly remembered by his friends and family including his son, John Edward "Big Ed" Ferrand (Mendy Lang) of Martinsville; daughter, Shelley Kay Ferrand of Martinsville; sister, Judy West of Ocala, Florida; and a special uncle who John considered his brother, Paul Hunt (Bonnie) of Martinsville.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, February 15th, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Neal and Summers Funeral & Cremation Center in Martinsville. There will be a graveside service following the visitation at 1:30 pm in New South Park Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Shirley.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of John to Wellspring, 301 W Harrison St. Martinsville, IN 46151 or to the American Legion Post #230, 701 E. Morgan Street, Martinsville, IN 46151

Johnny was my first employer. I mowed his grass for many years as a kid. My dad was working on his lawn mower. When they got it started, dad told me to try it out. Johnny told me if I´d finish the yard he would pay me. I mowed it from then on . He was a great man.
