Funeral services for Mr. John Henry "J.H." George will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Gorum Baptist Church, Gorum, with Reverend Michael DuBois officiating. Interment will follow in Flatwoods Cemetery, Flatwoods, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville.
J.H. was born April 16, 1935, to the union of John D. George and Laura Arnold George, and received his wings on January 28, 2026, surrounded by his family, at 90 years old.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Laura George; three brothers, A.L. George, Lavell George, and William George; five sisters, Virgie Basco, Linnie Rachal, Martha George Boswell, Bobbie Bolton, and Edith Bolton; two sons, Henry "Lee" George and Lonnie George; one daughter-in-law, Teresa Gilmore George; and one grandson, Anthony George, Jr.
Those left to cherish his loving memory are his wife of thirty-two years, Cheryl George; five children, Johnny Ray George, Joseph "Joe" George, Anthony George (Sherry), Theresa Prince (Michael), and Irma Lemoine (John); one brother, Darnell George (Loretta); ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
J.H. worked for many years as a welder and pipefitter with Brown & Root and the Local 247 Union. He was also a poultry farmer for several years, operating four large chicken houses and raising thousands of chickens annually. In addition, he enjoyed raising cows and hogs and took great pride in his vegetable garden and fields.
His passion for petrified palm wood eventually grew into a family business, Poor Boy Rock Shop, where he spent countless hours with his loved ones appreciating the beauty of rocks, incorporating them into his home, and traveling together to local fairs and festivals and annual trips to Quartzsite, Arizona.
J.H. loved to fish "all day" and visit with people, calling everyone "Buddy." He was known for keeping rocks in his pocket to give to anyone he met and a ring for the ladies.
J.H. was a lifetime member of Almondville Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He rarely missed a service and especially looked forward to the wonderful meals prepared each week by Loretta and his niece, Nora.
He will be missed, but never forgotten by his family and friends.
