John Gibson

John Donald Gibson, 93 years of age, passed away on January 4, 2025, at his home in Evansville, Indiana.
He was born in Preston, Lancashire (England) and was proud of his Northern roots. He completed his BA at University of London (Hull) and earned a Masters' Degree from University of Massachusetts, Boston. John moved to the USA after marrying Dr. Leslie Jean Roberts, whom he met in Spain, in 1985. They taught at a number of colleges in the Boston Area. In 1991 they moved to Evansville where they taught at University of Southern Indiana until their retirement. John's major fields of interest were Shakespeare, World War I, languages and poetry.
John leaves his wife, Leslie, two children and two grandchildren, Rebecca Poynter, (David; children Darryl and Tilly Poynter) and Benjamin Roberts Gibson (Anna Reckelhoff) and his nephews Paul and Tim Gibson and their wives and children. John was a prolific poet. He directed and acted in plays in England. He rode 12 miles every day on his bicycle until his 80s. He was an intellectual, artist, traveler, intimate friend, and gourmet cook, and a fascinating and caring husband to Leslie for 39 years. John and his American family spent 2 months every summer in Ivy Cottage, Belchamp Walter and travelled extensively in Europe.
