John Gold, 80, of Haywood County passed away on Sunday June 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 22, 1945, to the late Joseph and Betty Gold, John is also preceded in death by a sister, Joann Parker and her husband Tom, and a brother Jerry Gold.
As a proud Navy Veteran, John served his country during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he dedicated many years to General Motors until he retired in 1996. In the years that followed, John worked for Laurel Ridge County Club, sharing his passion for golf. John was a generous man who always offered a helping hand to those in need. Memories of him will forever be in the hearts of those who love him.
John was a man of unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, and he faithfully supported his church, The Orchard.
John's warm spirit shone through his humor; he had a special gift for teasing and joking with those around him. His love for family and friends was the cornerstone of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them. He never met a stranger and would start a conversation with anyone willing to talk (or listen). Traveling, listening to music (especially from the 50s and 60s) and celebrating his unwavering support for the Tar Heel basketball team were among his many joys. John could be described as a walking encyclopedia of information regarding the Civil War and was an avid student of history in general.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 50 years Yvonne Gold; his two sons, Chasen Gold and Tygue Gold; his grandson, Kai Gold; sister Nancy Ardolino (Bruce); daughter in law, Stephanie Gold; nieces, Karen Parker Hall, Tammy Saenz, and Mariann Manderville and a nephew, Joey Parker.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 12:00 pm at Smoky Mountain Cremations and Funeral Service. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service from 11:00 – 12:00.
Smoky Mountain Cremations and Funeral Service of Maggie Valley is caring for the family and the online register is available at www.smokymountaincremations.com.
