John Anthony Gosser, 76, of 114 Nixon Road, Edenton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 5, 2025 surrounded by his family and friends at ECU Health Medical Center, Greenville, NC.
John was born on July 6, 1949 in Chowan County. He was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Inez Nixon Gosser and by his wife, Phyllis Bazemore Gosser.
Survivors include his brother, Frank Gosser and wife, Hope; brother-in-law, Kenneth Bazemore and wife, Katheryn; nephews, Brad Gosser and Aaron Bazemore; niece, Carroll Bazemore Pate; and many extended family and by those he considered family.
John was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, Edenton, NC. He was a retired firefighter with the Center Hill Cross Roads Fire Department and an honorary member of the Rocky Hock Ruritans. John was a longtime farmer with Byrum Farms. He later opened Gosser Enterprises where he would tackle any fix-it job or custom work that anyone needed. John catered many events and was known for his pig cooking, Bar-B-Q chickens and his sauce. He was always willing to help with a smile on his face. John loved for his friends and even strangers to stop by and talk.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025 in the Miller & Van Essendelft Chapel, Edenton, NC with Pastor Trey Rogers, Pastor Matt Dupuy, and Pastor Joey Nixon officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home and at other times at John’s residence. Graveside service will follow the visitation in the Nixon Family Cemetery, Edenton, NC.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to those who helped take care of John through the years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Hock Baptist Church, Center Hill Cross Roads Fire Department, or to the Rocky Hock Ruritan Club.
