John William Harris, 75, of Houston passed away May 12, 2025 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. A quiet soul with a steady presence, John was a man of few words but great heart.
Born October 4, 1949 in Wellington, Texas, John grew up fishing, dove hunting and playing sports. He was passionate about football and track while at Wellington High School. John attended Texas Tech University, where he met the love of his life and future wife, Deborah Neinast Harris with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage. Together they enjoyed years of cheering on their Red Raiders.
John was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. As a dedicated father, John coached baseball teams, attended countless school functions, and shared simple moments like teaching his sons to fish. John loved watching sports, having movie nights with his family, and birdwatching on his daily walks.
He spent 45 years in corporate sales and management, building lasting relationships and strong network of lifelong friends. John was a faithful and active member at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, serving as an usher.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Ruby Harris, and his grandparents.
John is survived by his wife, Deborah, sons, Andrew Harris and wife Anne-Marie; Brett Harris and wife Nicole; his granddaughters, Addy and Camille along with his sister Annabelle Harris Baker, and niece Lauren DeGiusti.
Though he walked quietly through the world, John left behind a trail of love and strength that will never be forgotten by all who were blessed to know him. A memorial service celebrating John's life will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Chapelwood United Methodist Church at 11140 Greenbay Street, Houston, Texas 77024. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Kids Meals or Farm Aid, causes that were dear to his heart.
