John Raymond Henderson, 75, of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, passed away on September 12, 2025 surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy battle with chronic illness.
John leaves behind his four children, eldest daughter (name omitted per her request), Jon Henderson (Lorraine), Melissa White (Perry), Joshua Henderson (Samantha); eight grandchildren to include Evan (18), Tyler (15), Jeremiah (6), and Jameson(5); and his sister, Cheryl. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Frances, and his parents Ralph & Dorothy Henderson.
After graduating high school, John proudly joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as a diesel mechanic in Vietnam. He carried the pride of that service with him throughout his life. Following his time in the military, John became a distributor for The Washington Post, where he dedicated 30 years of hard work before retiring in 2005. Never one to sit still, he spent another 15 years as a fleet mechanic for an HVAC company, continuing to share his knowledge and work ethic with those around him.
When John retired to the mountains of Morgan County, he found joy in the quiet beauty of his home. Throughout his years John enjoyed the company of his family and friends. He was always ready to take on a car project or go for a motorcycle ride. John had a huge soft spot for all of the critters and was a strong advocate for any animal in his care.
John will be remembered for his strong personality, stength, resilience, sense of humor, and the way he always showed up for the people he loved. His legacy lives on in his children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know him.
A celebration of life with military honors will be held Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the American Legion Post 21 in Winchester, VA, followed by food and a cash bar.
