John Talbot "Tau" Henry Jr., 92, of Altamonte Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025. Born May 20, 1933, in Baltimore, MD, Tau was the beloved son of the late John T. Henry Sr. and Alma Sprecher Henry.
Tau is survived by his three children, Leslie Henry, John Henry III and his wife Pam, and Robert Henry; four grandchildren, John Henry IV, Sarah Hudson, Ryan Henry, and Logan Henry; and his loving sister Nancy Brown and her children David and Kristin Brown. He was predeceased by his devoted wife, Jane Laverty Henry.
Tau grew up in Penn Wynne Pennsylvania, where he enjoyed a wonderful childhood and often shared stories of his adventures during "the good old days". Tau was a proud graduate of Lower Merion High School, and went on to attend Washington College, where he made many lifelong friends before entering the U.S. Army in 1955. Tau served with honor at various bases across the country, with his fondest memories coming from his time in the Defense Courier Division in Paris, France. Holding top-secret clearance, he was entrusted with the delivery of classified materials throughout Europe - an experience he cherished for the rest of his life.
Following his military service, Tau began a distinguished 50-year career in sales with Continental Can Company, Westvaco, and International Paper. In 1962, he met the love of his life, Jane Laverty, through a dear family friend, Pat Watson. Together they built a beautiful life, raising their family in East Goshen, PA, before moving to Altamonte Springs, Florida, in 1979 for Tau's career with International Paper. Although he became a Floridian he still cherished his Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies.
Tau's work took him all over the country, often with Jane and the kids in tow. His favorite destination was always Maui, Hawaii - a place he considered sacred and his "second home."
Above all, Tau deeply loved his family and friends. His humor, kindness, and warmth touched everyone who knew him, and his memory will live on in all who loved him.
A funeral service for Tau will be held at 11am on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg, MD. Burial will follow in the family plot at Junior Order Cemetery in Preston, MD.
