John Cameron Hiles passed away on February 26, 2025 after an extended stay in hospice care. He was a resident of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, formerly of Gifford, Illinois. He was born at Great Lakes Naval Base, Illinois to Daniel and Linda ( Walters) Hiles on October 8, 1951.
Affectionately known as "Schooler" he was constantly studying. He attended Rantoul Township High School, Blackburn College, and earned his Bachelor in Education from Eastern Illinois University. He continued his education at NOVA SouthEastern University where he received a Masters in Computer Technology Education. He further continued with NOVA to receive a EdD (Doctorate in Education). He was a teacher, a preacher, a Scout Leader and Medical Technician. John held the office of Elder for The Community of Christ Church (formerly Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). In his many years of service, he was regarded highly by those around him. Always a teacher he used his degrees in Education and Computer Technologies to teach Computers, Math, Language Arts and Social Studies for K-12. He was also an Adjunct Professor at many of the area state colleges. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. John was a very devout Christian but was accepting of other people's views. He will be dearly missed.
John was preceded in death by his loving wife Barbara Mary Hiles (Birard), his parents, a sister Debi Shirk, brother Mark and brother Scott. He is survived by his daughter Amanda Yusciewitz and son John Louis (Brindalyn) Hiles, 4 grandchildren, his brothers Kenneth (Cindy), James (Lynda) and Joseph (Brenda) Hiles, sisters Connie (George) Johnson, Vicki (Cliff) Chaffee, Ann Mitchell, Penny Hiles and Beth (Kenton) Richford, and over 25 nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be planned for late May in Illinois so that family and friends may attend.
