John "Tim" Hood Obituary John Timothy Hood passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from injuries due to an unexpected accident while visiting dear friends in Pennsylvania, just days before his 75th birthday.
Tim was born September 25, 1950, in
Warsaw, IN to John Hersey Hood and Helen (Baker) Hood. He was a lifetime resident of Winona Lake graduating from Warsaw Community High School in 1968, he attended John Brown University (1968-69), then transferred to Indiana State University for a semester. Tim finished his college degree later in life graduating the same year as his youngest son. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he earned the American Spirit Award serving from 1970 until 1974. Tim wore many hats in his life serving as a volunteer firefighter in the Winona Lake Fire Department and then went on to serve in the Warsaw Fire Department for 21 years ( 1986 – 2007) where he retired at the rank of Captain. He was skilled at HVAC and worked in that field for decades, culminating in nearly 20 years at Grace College Physical Plant.
On November 29, 1975, he married the love of his life, Catherine (Ansell) Hood. They were blessed with almost 50 years of marriage.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, son Ryan and his sister Lova.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Cathy (Winona Lake); sons Philip (Cami, Saint Augustine, FL); Aaron (Treasure, Winona Lake); Jared (Megan, Arusha, Tanzania); and Andrew (Jenie, Mason, OH). He also left behind ten grandchildren: Calista, Macy, Gavin (Jaslyn), Ryan, Garrett, Dane, Lena, Addilyn, Helen and Charlotte, and one great grandson, Riley. In addition, he leaves three sisters: Marilyn (AR), Ruth (Norm, WY) and Naomi (David, TX), and one brother-in-law (Garth Bertschi, OH). Tim also leaves many nieces and nephews, who will miss him.
Tim loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart worshipping at Christ's Covenant Church. His servants' heart often found him helping others. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who lived his life with integrity, strength and service. Tim's loss is immeasurable to those that loved him.
Tim's life will be celebrated with a service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road,
Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Pastor Rod Valentine. Friends and family may visit an hour prior to the service from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. A private graveside service will take place at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw with military rites conducted by members of the American Legion Post #49 and V.F.W #1126 both of Warsaw.
Any Donations or contributions in his memory will be used for a playground project in Arusha Tanzania, where his son Jared ministers to pastors and their families. Tim was very passionate about this project as he had traveled to Tanzania to visit and felt led to care for the people there.
