Mark Anthony Nix, 77, of Evansville, IN, formerly of Mt. Vernon, IN, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, surrounded by family and love. He was born March 2, 1948, in Evansville, IN to the late Paul E. Nix and Virginia Lucille (Darr) Nix.

Mark was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, Class of 1966 and was inducted into the M-Club Hall of Fame as a member of the football and baseball team. A gifted athlete, Mark earned multiple All-Big Eight Conference and All-State honors, setting records and leaving a legacy in Mount Vernon athletics. Following high school, he attended Indiana State University. Mr. Nix proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the U.S.S. Independence, where he was stationed in Bermuda.

In his earlier years, Mark worked for and later managed the family business, Nix Auto Parts, in Mt. Vernon. After moving to Evansville, he found success in sales for various companies, always known for his sharp wit, sharper wardrobe, and determination to close a deal with a smile.

Mark was an avid Cincinnati Reds and IU Basketball fan, a dedicated coach, and a fierce competitor - whether on the golf course, around a card table, or yard work, he gave his all. He loved music of all kinds, often turning the volume up just a little too loud while relaxing or reminiscing about the good times. Mark enjoyed hunting, especially upland game where he could be with his bird dogs. He also hunted waterfowl with his dad, brother and relatives. Mark will be remembered for his quick wit, his humor, and his ability to make every moment - even a simple round of golf or hand of cards - something to smile about.

He is survived by his devoted daughter, Angela Cherry (Roger), granddaughters, Anna and Sophia Cherry; sisters Jennifer Sharber, Elizabeth Wells (Rick), Amy Strong Sherretz (Alan), Christina Harp, and Jeanne Bundy (Mike), all of Mt. Vernon, Indiana; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mark was preceded in death by his son, David C. Nix, his brother, Paul E. Nix Jr., and parents, Paul E Nix, Sr., and Virginia L. (Darr) Nix.

The family wishes to thank the exceptional staff of North River Health Campus and Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassionate care, comfort, and support.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Harvestime Temple in Mt. Vernon, Indiana. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring Mark's life and the many memories he created along the way. A private burial with family will follow the ceremony.
