John J. Hromyak

John J. Hromyak, age 83, of Millcreek passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024. He was born in New Castle, PA on July 16, 1940, the son of the late Anna Kathrine Hromyak.
John became interested in pharmacy at a young age and graduated with a degree in Pharmacology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1962. Upon graduation he worked for Gray Drug company in Cleveland and Youngstown, OH. In the early 1960's, he moved to Edinboro, PA and became the Assistant Manager of Jolley's Pharmacy. He later took over the business and changed the name to Edinboro Pharmacy which he owned and operated on Erie Street until 1995. As a small town pharmacist, he was dedicated to his community and frequently made middle-of-the-night prescription deliveries. He also co-owned and was a part-time pharmacist at Albion Pharmacy.
John enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, supporting the Cleveland Browns and Guardians, a good cigar, and making his special Manhattan cocktails for friends. He also enjoyed practical jokes, such as the time he hired a person to dress as the Grim Reaper and deliver 50 black balloons to his wife on her 50th birthday while she attended a conference of realtors.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Madeline (Cooper) Hromyak; a daughter, Gretchen Tucker; two sons, Andrew Hromyak (Jenn Piatt) and Alex Hromyak (Carla Vanchieri Hromyak); Five grandchildren, Alexandra, Olivia and Jack Hromyak, Clea and Margot Tucker.
Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th St. on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m., and are invited to a Requiem of Divine Liturgy on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at Sts. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, 3415 Wallace St. Burial will be private. Condolences may be sent at www.bruggerfuneralhomes.com
