John Hughes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by A. D. Porter & Sons Funeral Home - Downtown on May 13, 2024.
John Wesley Hughes II, or as those who loved him affectionately called him Jay, was involved in a fatal car accident on April 29, 2024, resulting in his passing.
Jay was born to Dorothy and John Hughes I on April 30, 1968. He became a member of the Church of Christ at the age of 13 and kept his faith throughout his life. He was a graduate of Eastern High School's class of 1986. After a gap year, he attended Western Kentucky University, where he met Samantha Quisenberry, who became his partner in love for the next 37 years. Their union resulted in seven beautiful children, who they dedicated their lives to raising and loving.
In the 55 years of Jay's life, He utilized his natural abilities to connect with and love people to foster countless meaningful relationships. His smile, infectious laughter and loyalty brought many people joy and happiness. He was first a child of God, loving husband, and "Daddy", then a faithful son and brother, a confidant and friend to all that knew him.
Jay loved sports and enjoyed being one of the Pittsburgh Steelers and University of Louisville Cardinal's #1 fans. He loved chess and bowling, in which he played on many teams growing up. He worked many jobs and acquired many skills, which he used to the benefits of those he loved. He was a welder, pipe fitter, mechanic, financial literacy, tax preparer and driver. With all these skills he left a memorable impression on whoever crossed his path.
He was preceded in death and gone to be with his loving daughter Chailey Hughes, parents John and Dorothy Hughes, grandmother Beatrice Buchanan, sister Tuijuiana Buchanan, and mother in law Reda Quisenberry. He leaves not to mourn but to cherish his memory his wife Samantha Hughes, daughters, Nicole Hughes, Dream Hughes and Matyra Hughes, sons Kearnan Hughes, John Hughes III and Anthony Quisenberry (Samantha), and three grandchildren, Savannah Quisenberry, August Quisenberry, and Kylah Brown, his siblings Angel Hughes, DeVaughn Hughes, Clarence Yates (Lori), Rhonda, Stevie and Tommy, a host of other relatives aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
