John Harold Humpton III, 71, of Sterling, Virginia, passed away on January 7, 2026.
Born on June 18, 1954, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, John was the eldest of three boys. He earned a degree in Biology from Cornell University and later received masters’ degrees in Adult Education and Biology from Kansas State University and Syracuse University respectively.
John dedicated his life to service. He served for 20 years as a Chemical Officer in the US Army before continuing his commitment to public service with more than two decades as a civil servant in Arlington, Virginia. His career reflected his strong sense of duty, integrity, and care for others.
John was a devoted father to his three sons and a loving husband to his wife of 34 years, Julie. He was known for his kindness, quick wit, and ready sense of humor. He enjoyed traveling and cherished time spent with friends and family.
John is survived by his wife, Julie; his sons, Jeffrey, Andrew, and Bennet; and his brother, Stan. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Felicia Humpton, and his brother, Carl.
A memorial service will be held on January 22 at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, VA at 12pm. Afterward the family will hold visitation at their home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration.
