John H. Janssen, age 74, passed away on June 7, 2025, in Vancouver, Washington. Born on September 4, 1950, in Vancouver, he remained deeply connected to the Pacific Northwest throughout his life.
His early years were spent on a 10 acre farm near Battle Ground, WA. with his parents and three sisters. He attended Battle Ground Central Elementary and Glenwood Heights Elementary. In the Spring of 1959 his family moved to the Rosemere Neighborhood where he attended Washington Elementary, Lewis Jr High and graduated from Fort Vancouver High School in 1968. In school he was a member of the band and swim club where he broke a school record in the 100-yard Butterfly and went on to state.
Following high school, he enrolled at Clark College before joining the U.S. Army in December of 1969. He was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany from 1969-72. At the time if his discharge he held the rank of Sgt. E-5 and received a National Defense Service Medal for PERSH MSL CRMN April 1970, as well Expert Rifle M-14; Expert Rifle M-16; and Expert Pistol.45 Cal. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, John served his country with honor and dedication. His time in the military reflected a steadfast character that remained with him in all aspects of life.
Upon his return home he enrolled at Western Washington University where he graduated with a degree in Accounting. His employment history included various accounting positions for the State of Washington. He later became a Massage Therapist and a Reiki Master. Even today he has a large following in the Reiki Community both near and far.
John found joy in the simple pleasures of fishing and gardening. Whether casting a line into local waters or tending to his garden, he embraced the peace and fulfillment these pastimes brought him.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda "Pixie" Beatty Janssen of Washougal, Washington. He is also remembered by his sisters: Linda Janssen Clark, Cindy Janssen Quigley and Kathy Janssen White (Paul) all of Vancouver. His nieces and nephews include Michael Clark of Vancouver, Patti Clark of Portland, Or; Candy Quigley, Casey Quigley, Stephanie White Clark (Scott) all of Vancouver; and Jason White (Leah) of Orange County, California. John's memory lives on through his great-nephew Terrall Quigley of New Mexico and great-nieces Katie Molyneux Reinmuth of Spokane, Sarah Molyneux Torres of Vancouver, Grayson Molyneux Loy of Bellingham; Malaika Quigley, Marlee Quigley, Cassandra Clark, Olivia Clark, Evanee Clark and Charlie Clark all residing in Vancouver. He is also remembered by great-nephews Joshua and Aaron White of Orange County, California, and great-great-nephew Zeke Torres of Vancouver. He also leaves many extended family cousins and friends to reflect upon the memories made over the years with him.
He will also be missed by extended family and friends at his home: Jay Bird, Bunny, Moose, Surfer Dude, Perfect and many more.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry "Hank" Janssen and Elizabeth "Bette" Snedden Janssen, brothers-in-law George Quigley and Mike Clark, his niece Michelle Clark Molyneux and a Special Lifetime Friend Ramona "Mona" Collins Rains

A Celebration of Life is planned for September 6, 2025 from 2:00-4:00pm at The American Legion located at 4607 NE St James Rd.
