John Joseph Anthony Caito

John Joseph Anthony Caito, 88, lifelong Indianapolis resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 14, 2021 at St. Paul's Hermitage. John was born on February 11, 1933, to the late Joseph Ardizzone and Clara (Mecurio) Caito. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Mary Ann Katherine (Golob) Caito, for 56 years who precedes him in death in 2014.
John graduated from Sacred Heart High School, where he was president of his senior class and member of the Varsity football team. He was the owner of Caito & Corsaro Produce Company for more than 30 years. John was a devoted member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and St. Mark Catholic Church for many years. His devotion to Christ served as a solid foundation for his family. After mass, Sundays centered around Mary Ann's family Italian dinners. Friends would conveniently visit because it meant John would invite them to the table where an oversized helping of pasta and meatballs would soon appear in front of them. Everyone was welcome! Memorial Day family reunions and the annual Caito Christmas gathering were joyful much anticipated times for his family. John was a proud Italian-American. Both he and Mary Ann enjoyed volunteering at the Holy Rosary Italian Festivals and St. Mark Spaghetti Dinners. They were talented dancers, having met at the local CYO Hall. John and Mary Ann inevitably found themselves surrounded on the dance floor at family weddings as they happily danced around the room.
Above all, he was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend-never missing graduations, sporting events, grandparent's days, and birthdays. He enjoyed his Daily Jumble frequently finishing in record time. John enjoyed the simple life. He found much enjoyment and laughter in the evenings-sitting on lawn chairs with family and friends sharing stories of his childhood antics. He looked forward to daily Mass and afternoon walks with neighbors.
John will be remembered for his work ethic, loyalty to family and friends, and his devotion to his Catholic Faith.
In addition to his parents and Mary Ann, he was proceeded in death by two sisters Magdelina Caito Corsaro and Ida Mae Caito Mascari; brother, Philip Caito.
Survivors include his children, Joe Caito, Claire (John) Conover, Frank Caito, Sophia (Jim) Otley, Gina (Phil) Reed, Annette (Andy) Ratz, Diana (Brian Daly) Caito; sisters, Mary Ann Caito Schembra and Marguerite Caito Bova; grandchildren, Nick (Tiffany), Zack (Neysa), Brittany, Chris (Lindsey), Caitlin Conover, John and Frankie Caito, Sam (Allis), Luke, Nat (Raegan), Gabe and Michael Otley, Sophie and Georgia Reed, Katherine, Caroline, Lizzy, and Andrew Ratz, Maggie Stewart; great grandchildren, Dominic, Vincent, and Augustine Conover, Jacob and Savannah Conover, Sebastian Rumple, Isla and Elsie Conover, and Magnus Otley.
Visitation will be Monday, December 20th, 2021, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at St. Mark Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2 p.m., followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery. O'Riley Funeral Home is serving the family.
