John Keach Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center - Morton on Feb. 20, 2026.
MORTON - John Phillip Keach, 90, of Morton, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.

Born on December 29, 1935, in Mt. Sterling, Illinois, John was the son of Galen and Alma (Robbins) Keach. On January 14, 1956, he began a lifelong journey with his beloved Gwen Todd, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage. She survives.

Also surviving are his sons, Jeff (Joan) Keach of Morton and Doug (Stephanie) Keach of Yates City; grandchildren, Katie (Hywel) Davies, Daniel (Courtney) Keach, Elizabeth Keach and Ali Keach; great-grandchildren, Aled and Nia, Dacoda and Madeliene; and sisters-in-law, Jan Keach, Judy Harris and Vicki Todd; and Brother in-law, Larry Todd.

John was preceded in death by his brothers, David and Thomas; his sister-in-law, Barbara Todd; and his brother-in-law, Kenneth Todd.

John was a 1953 graduate of Woodruff High School in Peoria. His professional career was marked by leadership and versatility. He dedicated 20 years to Security Savings and Loan, where he rose through the ranks to retire as Senior Vice President. Not one to remain idle, John later transitioned into the burgeoning field of technology, serving as the network administrator for Small, Parker and Blossom until his final retirement in 2000.

A lover of the outdoors and a master of the grill, John was happiest when entertaining friends and family alongside Gwen. His handy nature was evident from age 20, when he built his first home, and his curiosity later led him to master and teach computer technology for Fon du Lac Park District.

His life was defined by service. John dedicated his time to Gideons International, the Christian Business Men's Connection (CBMC), and the Salvation Army Advisory Board, where he served as Chairman of the Tree of Lights Campaign. Deeply rooted in his faith, he also served as a Church board member and a long-time Sunday School teacher.

John was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Groveland, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 26, 2026, with Pastor Jonathan Chadbourn officiating. Visitation will take place from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to the service at the church. Private burial will be at a later date at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church or Gideons International.

Yesterday

I´m sorry to hear of John´s passing. My mom, Susan Howell, worked with him at Security Savings, and I had fond memories of him from visiting the bank when I was a little girl. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
