Services for Dr. John Kim will take place at JAMA Global Campus starting with a wake on Sunday, March 16, 2025 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. and the memorial celebration at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 17, 2025 at JAMA. A private family graveside service will be held later at Garden Valley Cemetery. *Flowers may be delivered to JAMA on Saturday, March 15, 2025 between 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
John Choon Keun Kim was born December 11, 1939 in Seoul, Korea. Raised in South Korea, he then came to the U.S. to further his studies with his wife Sarah in 1967. He received his master's and doctorate degrees in Political Science (American Government) from the University of Southern California and taught for over four decades at Pepperdine University, the University of Alaska Anchorage, and California State University, Monterey Bay.
Dr. Kim was the Founder, President, and Chairman of the Board of Jesus Awakening Movement for America/All Nations (JAMA), which calls on Christians to pray for spiritual awakening and revival, and the Founder and President of the Global Leadership Development Institute (GLDI), which trains young people to be transforming leaders for Christ. JAMA and GLDI headquarters are in Garden Valley, TX. An ordained elder in the Presbyterian church, Dr. Kim spoke to hundreds of thousands of young people, learned societies, churches, Christian professionals as well as business and thought leaders in the U.S. and internationally (61 countries), traveling nearly 4 million miles, on topics pertaining to life, vision casting, repentance and prayer, leadership, globalization, ownership, integrity, and character. Dr. Kim is also the author of several Christian books including Why Me? and Why Now (Extraordinary Measures for Extraordinary Times).
Dr. Kim went to be with the Lord and Savior at the age of 85 on March 10, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Moon Bong Kim and Jo Kani Kim.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, who was the love of his life, their two children, Sharon Kim (married to Edward), Paul Edward (married to Jenny), and their five grandchildren, Mark Edward, Grace Catherine, Noelle Catherine, Lucy Emmanuelle, and John Edward.
Paul Kim, Edward Sunoo, Mark Sunoo, Jason Yang, Jay Morgan, and Mac Sadler will serve as pallbearers.
