John Davis Krodel, 89, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on June 30, 2022.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Murray Gossett officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount.

John was born in Portersville, Indiana on August 22, 1932, to Clarence and Hildegard Krodel. He attended Jasper High School where he played on the Jasper High School basketball team in Indiana. They won the Indiana State Basketball Championship. The team and members were inducted into the Indiana Hall of Fame. In September, John with be inducted into the Jasper High School Athletic Hall of Fame. This has always been a significant event in his life. Basketball is a big deal in Indiana.

John served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

John attended college on the GI bill. Graduating with a Bachelor's Degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, in Durant, Oklahoma. He also graduated with his Master's Degree in Education from West Texas State University.

John married Elizabeth Anne Garrison on September 2, 1955. They were married for 64 years. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows.

After earning his Bachelor's Degree, John and Elizabeth made their home in Amarillo, Texas.

He worked for the Amarillo Independent School District for 32 years, (1959-1991). He taught at Crockett Middle School, was the Assistant Principal at Fannin Middle School, and the Principal at James Bowie Middle School where he retired.

He enjoyed playing golf and loved being around people, especially sharing stories about his life growing up and working with young people in the schools.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo, Texas. John had a very strong faith throughout his life, he loved attending church, especially men's Bible studies. A special shout out to the Saturday morning Men's Bible Study.

He volunteered with Texas Retired Teachers Association, Special Olympics, and was a Rotarian for many years. John served as an elder at both Westminster and St. Luke's Presbyterian Churches. He was frequently found assisting his wife with her own volunteer projects at church.

John was a loving husband and father.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth A. Krodel; son, John D. Krodel, Jr.; and sister, Margaret Alles.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen A. Harris, of Houston, Texas; son, Stephen G. Krodel, of Canyon, Texas; brother, Michael W. Krodel, of Ocala, Florida; many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Mr. Krodel was an outstanding Assistant Principal at Fannin JR High and I respected him a lot. A Man with a smile on his face even when talking to us to keep us on the straight and narrow path.
