Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory - Souderton on Dec. 9, 2025.
J. Clyde Landes, 94, of
Souderton, Pennsylvania, formerly of Chalfont, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Souderton Mennonite Homes.
He was the devoted husband of Jane Eleanor (Schloneger) Landes, with whom he shared 66 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in
Skippack, Pennsylvania, Clyde was the son of the late John T. and Hannah (Godshall) Landes. He was a 1949 graduate of Lansdale High School (now North Penn High School) and went on to complete four years of study at Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana, and two years at Indiana University in Bloomington where he received his master's degree in Music Education.
Clyde fulfilled his alternative service at hospitals in Washington, D.C., and Indianapolis, Indiana. He then dedicated 37 years to teaching music at Council Rock High School in Newtown, Pennsylvania, where he influenced generations of students.
A faithful member of Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, Clyde served for many years as a song leader and choir director. His love of music extended well beyond the church – he founded and directed a men's community chorus, sang with the Bucks County Choral Society, and joyfully encouraged others in their musical gifts.
He also volunteered with the Indian Valley Opportunity Committee (now Keystone Opportunity Center), tutoring immigrants in English as a second language – a role that reflected his gentle spirit and care for others.
Music was central to Clyde's life, but so were many other interests. During college, he enjoyed pitching baseball in the Perkiomen Valley League with the Lansdale Tigers. He was an avid golfer, loved small-game hunting with his sons, cherished annual family trips to Ocean City, NJ, and delighted in traveling both nationally and internationally. Above all, he loved time with his family and took great pride in each generation.
Clyde will be remembered as a kind, generous, easygoing man - sociable, curious about others, a good listener, and deeply devoted to his family.
In addition to his beloved wife, Jane, he is survived by two sons, R. Scott Landes & wife, Wendy of Perkiomenville, PA, and Steven Ray Landes of
Souderton, PA; his grandson, Andre Hange Landes & wife, Jerika of Pennsburg, PA; his granddaughter, Sierra Karis Landes of Perkiomenville, PA; and his great-grandson, Maverick Scott Landes of Pennsburg, PA. He is also survived by three brothers, Roland Landes & wife, Darlene of Harrisonburg, VA, Glenn Landes & wife, Colleen of Sellersville, PA, and Larry Landes of Philadelphia, PA; and his sister, Lois Ann Boaman & husband, Richard of Telford, PA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Landes.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, 713 Blooming Glen Road, Blooming Glen, PA 18911, followed by an informal visitation at 12:00 p.m.
A private inurnment will take place at the Blooming Glen Mennonite Church Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Mennonite Central Committee, 21 S. 12th Street, Akron, PA 17501.
