John Lane Sr.-lovingly known as Dad, Daddy John, and Paw Paw-passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, in Gainesville, Florida, the home of his beloved Florida Gators. He was 58 years old.
Born on October 26, 1966, in Jacksonville, Florida, John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Tracy; his children, John Jr., Joshua, Alyssa, Triana, and Ansley; and his cherished grandchildren, Christian and Natalie. He is also survived by his mother, Katie, his sister Mary, and his brother Warren. John was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Mathews.
John began working in HVAC at the age of 18 and built a long, successful career, eventually serving as an HVAC Operations Manager. Among his proudest accomplishments was being part of the construction of the Wounded Warrior Project facility in Jacksonville-an effort that combined his professional skills with his patriotic spirit and generous heart.
John had a deep love for life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed playing golf, cheering on NASCAR, attending concerts, and being near the water-whether on a boat, fishing, or simply walking along the beach. His sense of humor was famously dry and sarcastic, earning him the affectionate nicknames "Eeyore" and "Grumpy," but beneath that exterior was a man of deep generosity and love. He gave faithfully to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital and Shriners Hospitals for Children, always eager to help those in need.
Though a man of few words, when John spoke, his words carried meaning. He expressed love in action, especially in the joy he found in surprising others with thoughtful gifts and in the deep pride he had for his family-especially his grandbabies, whom he adored.
John was a Christian man whose quiet but strong faith grounded his life. He will be remembered not only for the things he did, but for the way he made others feel-seen, supported, and loved.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Southpoint Community Church, 7556 Salisbury Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32256.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization close to his heart. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of John, please visit our Tree Store.
