John Collins LaPointe passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Hampton Manor, Dundee Mi. where he resided since August 23 after experiencing a fall, breaking his hip. He was 82 years old.
John was born in Logansport, Indiana on November 9, 1941, to Burton J. and Dorothy (Vincent). They moved to Monroe, and then during his formative years he lived with his grandparents, Wilfred and Gertrude (Gee) LaPointe attending the Hall of Divine Child and graduating in 1960 from Monroe Catholic Central.
Even before graduation, he started his career as a car salesman by selling cars from the front of his grandfather's house. He then went to Harry May Chevrolet, Cadillac where he won many prizes and awards as top salesman. He was also a manager at Friendly Ford. He took a brief break to become a La-Z-Boy sales representative but soon returned to selling cars (his love). He was often the top salesman wherever he was.
Until he had the fall at the end of June, he could be found at Groulx Automotive, where he worked for the last forty years.
John married his former wife, Marilyn Glee Miller in 1964. Three children were born to them -John C. Jr., Michael K., and Amity J.
He is survived by his daughter, Amity (Michael) Karim of Danville, CA; sister, Faith (Mark) Dudley of Melbourne, Fla.; nieces Jill Walling and Joy (Cliff) Leffler of Melbourne, Fla. His grandchildren, Michael Kinkade Karim of Denver, CO, Kathryn Arden Karim of Chicago, Illinois, and Miller Andersen Karim of Danville, CA. He is also survived by his extended family, multiple generations of the Groulx family.
He was preceded in death by his two sons, John Jr. and Michael K., his parents and grandparents, and his aunt, Rita LaPointe.
