In Loving Memory of John Jay Lauterbach

February 24, 1966 – September 24, 2025

John Jay Lauterbach, 59, of Murfreesboro, TN passed away peacefully after his long-fought battle with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinsonism on the morning of Wednesday September 24th surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, to Bernard and Margaret Lauterbach, John and his siblings, Linda and Bernie, grew up with a strong sense of family, faith, and community. He attended Central Catholic High School and later pursued his education at the University of California of Pennsylvania (Cal State), where he played football, joined the Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity and earned a Master's degree in Education.

Professionally, John dedicated his career of over 25 years to teaching special education. He left a lasting impact on countless students, families, and colleagues. His classroom was a place of patience, encouragement, and humor. More than a teacher, he was a mentor, a role model, and a compassionate guide who believed deeply in the potential of every child. Known for his approachable nature and quick wit, he brought joy and laughter to those around him both in and out of the classroom.

Personally, John's family and community were the heart of his life. He was a loving husband and soul mate to his wife Carol, a hands-on and caring father, and a steadfast friend. In his church community, John shared his faith with humility and an open heart.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; his children, Page (Zachary), Shane, and John Luke; and his siblings, Linda & Gary, Bernie & Natalie, John & Glenda, Bob & Vickie. He is also lovingly remembered by his nieces, Berkley, Megan (Levi), and Christina, and nephews, Benjamin (Morgan), Michael, Alex, Christopher, and John Michael.

John was a man of integrity and contagious enthusiasm. He knew how to make people laugh, how to make them feel supported, and that all people were worthy of compassion and respect.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 1st at 12PM CST at the Church of God, 2011 St. James St., Murfreesboro, TN 37128. Friends and loved ones are welcome to attend and celebrate John's life.
