John David Luko born on April 17, 1952 to John Alexander Luko and Mary Madeline Sprouse Luko in China Lake, California peacefully passed away at the age of 72 surrounded by loved ones on July 1, 2024 in Waxahachie, Texas. His family moved to San Diego, California when John was three years old, and he moved to Texas with his wife and children in 1993.

John’s words, deeds, and way of being were a calm and humble example of steadfast patience, love, and dedication to his family and all those who knew him. He enjoyed working in his yard and tending his small flock of chickens. He graduated from Clairemont High School and San Diego City College with an Associate in Arts Degree in Graphic Reproduction. In 2020, he retired from a long, successful career in the printing industry where he worked as a Lithographer for 50 years. After the day was done John would often sit on the patio sipping a glass of Jack Daniel's whiskey while enjoying the garden or watching his grandchildren play. He had an eye for detail and was a skilled craftsman in so many areas. From home and automotive repair and maintenance, painting, and restoring furniture, he enjoyed working with his hands and would often have several projects in the works. It's a known fact that from the comfort of his living-room chair John could tell you where in his workshop any specific tool, down to the tiniest screw, could be found.

For many years, John was a very active member of Boy Scout troop 109 in Desoto, Texas guiding his three sons and many other boys throughout their scouting journeys. He held many leadership positions including Scoutmaster and was recognized for several accomplishments during his years of service to the Boy Scouts including completing Woodbadge training, Daddy Wisdom Award (2004), Circle10 District Award of Merit (2009), as well as more than a few camp cook-off trophies. John’s memory and legacy are carried on by his wife, Ruth, their four children: Alexander, Emma, Ian, and Billy; grandchildren: Summer, Kasen, and Lillian; his brother Larry Luko and sister Linda Luko Christopher, six nephews, as well as those whose lives were touched through his friendship, leadership, and example. The extent to which he is missed cannot be put into words.
