John Malkowski Jr., age 77, of Royal Oak, passed away on April 9, 2025. He was born in Detroit on February 28, 1948 to John Malkowski Sr. and Janina Malkowski.
John grew up in Detroit and attended St. Rita schools from first grade through high school, graduating from St. Rita's High School. After school, he went on to work for Chrysler at the Warren Truck Plant (WTAP), where he stayed for 37 years before retiring.
In retirement, John kept busy flipping a couple homes and taking on renovation projects-something he truly enjoyed. He remodeled all his children's homes and was always the first to lend a hand with any project, never afraid to jump in and start pulling things apart.
John was a big Yankees fan and loved watching old Westerns---especially those with John Wayne and James Arness---and classic movies in general. He was proud of his Polish roots and stayed connected to his heritage, especially through cooking. Whether it was Polish or Italian food, or something else, John loved being in the kitchen and sharing a good meal. He was also a strong supporter of Polish churches in Detroit.
John is survived by his wife, Susan; his children: John Malkowski III, Donald (Melissa) Malkowski, Veronica (Steven) Lyles, and Daniel (Cher) Malkowski; his grandchildren: Emma, Gracie, Madeleine, Avery, and Cole; his siblings: Ken Malkowski, Darlene (Tom) Glaze, Kate (the late Mark) Turczyn, Donna Malkowski, and the late Carol Jones and James Malkowski. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation for John will be held on Tuesday, April 15, from 2 - 8 p.m. (Scripture Service at 6:00 p.m.) at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (four blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak. The Funeral Mass for John will be held on Wednesday, April 16 at 10 a.m. (visitation 9:30) at National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica, 2100 Twelve Mile Rd., Royal Oak. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
