Jim Caton

John James "Jim" Caton, age 86, of Berkley, passed away on July 31, 2025. He was born on January 4, 1939 in Detroit to Doug and Helen Caton. Jim was born and raised in Detroit, where he graduated from University of Detroit Jesuit High School. He went on to attend the University of Detroit, where he co-captained the sailing team, and later earned his accounting degree from Wayne State University. Jim built a successful career as a CPA in public accounting. Outside of work, he found peace and joy near the water-whether captaining a sailboat in his younger years or simply relaxing at the family cottage up north in recent times. Above all, Jim was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. His generosity knew no bounds, and he found his greatest happiness in the company of his family. He was also known for his wonderful sense of humor, which never wavered-even in the most difficult moments-offering both comfort and inspiration to those around him. Jim was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. Jim will be remembered as the beloved husband of Eileen, to whom he was wed for sixty-four years. Loving father of Jim (Karen Karolle) Caton, Theresa Mann, Dan (Julie) Caton, Hugh Caton, Jean (Steve) Budzinski, and Michael (Amanda Matthias) Caton. Proud grandfather of Sandy (Ethan) Plunkett, Curtis Mann, Michelle Mann, Erin (Austin) Huffer, Michael Mann, Danny Caton, Julianna Caton, Will Caton, Natalie Caton, Maria Caton, and Sophie Caton; and great-grandfather of Morgan and Norman Plunkett. Dear brother of Patricia (John) Bush and the late Doug (Mary Beth) Caton and Mary (Terry) Bush. Loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 5 from 2 - 8 p.m. (Rosary at 7:00 p.m.) at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (four blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak. A funeral Mass for Jim will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 6 at 10:00 a.m. (visitation 9:30 a.m.) at National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica, 2100 Twelve Mile Rd., Royal Oak.
