John Mathis Obituary
Mr. Mathis was born November 14, 1945, in Surry County to the late Fleet Mathis and Hazel Jarvis Mathis. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant before his retirement. Following his military service, he was employed with Weyerhaeuser for over 20 years. Mr. Mathis was a longtime and faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Luann Alexander Mathis.
Those left to cherish his memory include two sons, Kenny Mathis of Elkin and Greg Mathis (Ellie Brown-Mathis) of Greensboro; one brother, Davis Mathis (Diane) of Elkin; two sisters, Sara Carter (Stony) of Elkin and Sally Hutchens of Winston-Salem; and three grandchildren, Coleman Mathis, Harrison Brown, and Hazel Mathis.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with Dr. Danny Dodds officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
