Obituary for John Gerard Matishek
John Gerard Matishek, 66, of White Plains, NY passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 14, 2025. He was born in Jamaica, Queens on November 4, 1958, to the late Henry and Julia Matishek.
John was a beloved and cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend - a man of heart, humor, and hustle.
At the time of his passing, John was a dedicated and committed crew member of the Trader Joe's team. Prior to this role, he had an extensive career as a legendary and well-respected figure on the floor of the Mercantile Stock Exchange, earning recognition as a leading reporter among his peers. In an environment characterized by rapid decision-making and constant change, John served as a reliable, knowledgeable, and trusted voice. His expertise and instincts made him highly sought after by brokers, while his integrity, loyalty, undeniable charisma, and professionalism set him apart. John's contributions went beyond reporting; he possessed a deep understanding of the market and played a significant role in helping to shape it.
Born into a large, lively family, John grew up in a home filled with laughter, spirited debates, and the kind of love that only comes from a house full of siblings and cousins constantly in and out of each other's lives. That foundation shaped who he became - a man deeply rooted in loyalty, fiercely devoted to those he loved, and always ready with a sharp wit or a perfectly timed joke.
John's humor was more than just a personality trait - it was a gift. He could lighten any room, turn strangers into friends, and find a laugh even in life's hardest moments. His jokes were legendary, and his storytelling could make an entire room hang on his every word - then roar with laughter.
John leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and loyalty - and an unforgettable presence that will live on in the countless lives he touched. He will be missed.
He is survived by his loving wife Cynthia, son John (Melissa), daughter Julia, granddaughter Ashley Rose, who he cherished; brothers, Michael (Ellen), Christopher (Karyn), and James; sisters Mary Lou, and Stephanie (Steve).
John was predeceased by his parents, his brother Thomas, and brother-in-law Keven.
John is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews. Not to mention the countless number of friends. John you will be deeply missed.
