John P. McDonnell, 77, of Sea Girt passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. John was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. He was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School and John Jay University. John served in the New York City Police Department for 23 years. John was selected to the NYPD as a cadet trainee in the inaugural underage Police Academy program in 1964. He was the founding partner and President of a private investigative and security firm. John enjoyed traveling, was a proud member of the Belmar Fishing Club and Manasquan Elks, and most importantly cherished spending time with his grandchildren.
John was predeceased by his parents Martin and Helen (nee Moran) McDonnell, his wife Susan (nee Sheridan) McDonnell, a brother Thomas McDonnell. He is survived by his loving children Kenneth McDonnell and his wife Susan of Middletown, NJ and Laurie Guyon and her husband Scott of Saratoga Springs, NY. John was the cherished grandfather to Grace, Quinn and Reese McDonnell, and Abigail and Sean Guyon. He is also survived by his beloved siblings Robert McDonnell, Joan McDonnell, Maureen McDonnell, and her husband Greg Zinsley.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday, February 26, 2023 from 2-5 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan, NJ 08736. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 am on Monday, February 27, 2023, at St Mark's Catholic Church, 215 Crescent Parkway, Sea Girt, NJ 08750. Interment will be at a later date at St Anne Cemetery, Wall, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by going online to www.stjude.org.
