Our beloved Father, John "Billy" Mercado Jr, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024 after his second fight with liver cancer.
But he did not go down without a fight, nor did he let his faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ fade for a single moment. No matter what trials he went through, he made sure that he carried his bible, his power of prayer, and his love for Our God with him always.
John was born in Buda, TX on July 30, 1953. He was preceded in death by his mother Molly M. Mercado, who raised him and his surviving 4 sisters, Mary Frances Guerrero, Mollie Bustos, Janie Nowak, and Sandra Chavarria in a house full of grace, love, and comfort.
John is survived by his 2 daughters Ashley Mercado-Call & her husband Joshua Call, and daughter Crystal Mercado, and their mother Maria Mercado.
He graduated from McCallum High School in 1971. Afterwards he joined the United States Air Force on March 11, 1974 where he served Active Duty as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Specialist until he was Honorably Discharged on March 11, 1977.
After his enlistment was cut short, in 1981 he started working for H-E-B, where he wore many different hats such as an Overnight Stocker, Receiver, and Central Checkout Manager over the course of 30 years. In 2011, John retired and focused more on collecting toys and old antiques. Collecting had been a long time hobby he enjoyed for many years and was then able to do full time something he loved doing.
We would like to thank his doctors Dr. Villacian, Dr. Hansen, Dr. Oh, and Dr. Laidlaw, whom played a key role is his treatment.
We would like to give the warmest thank you to all the supporting medical staff that helped him so much along the way including the nurses on the 6th floor at the Seattle VA. We would like to also thank his nurses at Olympia Transitional Care and Rehabilitation who helped him fight and get back on his feet.
Lastly, we would like to give a huge thank you to the ICU team at the Seattle VA. Every single individual from his nurses to his teams of doctors. God could not have surrounded him with a more caring and talented medical staff.
Isaiah 41:10 KJV Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
