John Miles, 90, of Sarasota, FL, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, at Aravilla Memory Care.John was born on February 27, 1934, in Dayton, OH, to Ella Miles. He grew up in St. Clair Shores, MI, alongside his brother Jim and sister June. After high school, he married his high school sweetheart, Marlene. They later moved to Detroit, where he studied at Wayne State University for two years before starting his 30-plus-year career in the oil industry. His career led him from Detroit, MI, to Louisville, KY, and finally to Memphis, TN, before his eventual retirement in Florida, where his two sons, John and Greg, reside.
John was known for his love of sports, especially all Detroit professional teams and the University of Michigan-"GO BLUE!" He was an avid softball player in his 20s and 30s and later turned to golf, where he excelled and played in many local events. His quick wit, warm smile, blue eyes and infectious humor could light up any room. His presence left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his three children, John, Greg, and Susan, from his first marriage to Marlene; five grandchildren, Jonathan, John Allen, Nick, Emily, and Sierra; four great-grandchildren; and his second wife, Betty.
A memorial service will be held on March 7 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Your Traditions of Sarasota. The family deeply appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time.
John will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, humor, and love for family will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
