John Minter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on Jul. 18, 2023.
John H. Minter of Piedmont, Oklahoma, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the age of 82. Born and raised in Oklahoma City, John graced us with his presence on April 30, 1941, born to John and Merle (Moon) Minter. He attended Capitol Hill High School in the 1950s. Soon after graduation, John began working for the United States Postal service, dedicating himself to his profession and enjoying his career as a letter carrier for 42 years.
John was an active and longtime member of St Andrew Catholic church in Moore where he generously gave of him time and resources, particularly to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul and the Knights of Columbus. John also sang in the church choir for many years. He was enthusiastic about history and passionate about his own family's history and was especially proud of his Scottish heritage. He spent hours digging into genealogy research and was thrilled each time he discovered new branches in his family tree. Said to have a "heart of gold" he was also an aficionado of the Civil War era battles. John had a kind, friendly personality and was generous, never one to hesitate to help when someone was in need. His granddaughter has fond memories of accompanying him on his route as a small child and distributing food to some of the less fortunate families on his postal service route. John had a warm and even temperament, only showing hostility when someone moved his genealogy paperwork or messed with his extensive and impressive magazine collection. He had a great fondness for sports, and in addition to hunting and fishing excursions as well as racing cars at the Oklahoma fairgrounds in his younger years, he enjoyed playing and watching baseball, following OU women's softball, and OU football.
John's greatest love was reserved for his Lord and Savior, and for his late wife and love of his life, Jeanette. John and Jeanette enjoyed traveling together and had many adventures together both domestically and overseas. They also enjoyed time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending their school functions and after-school events. He also enjoyed taking Jeanette out to dinner, especially when they could dine at his favorite restaurants, Pickles or the former Harry Bear's in Moore. John was a devoted husband, a loving father and brother, and a proud grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. His caring personality, his faith and dedication to his church, and the love he had for his fellow man positively impacted many lives. John will be dearly missed by many, and his legacy of love will live on indefinitely in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Anna Maria Toledo of Oklahoma City, and Teresa Aberle of Norman; six grandchildren, Anastasia Sallaska and husband Aldee of Piedmont, John Gonzalez, Alexander Toledo, and Samuel Gonzalez and wife Destiny, all of Oklahoma City, and Alexander Aberle, and Lesli Aberle, both of Norman. John is also survived by his sister, Barbara Chandler of Chickamauga, Georgia, and a host of loving extended family, colleagues, and friends made over the years. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanette, and his sister, Patricia.
